Honey, We’re Not in Texas Anymore!

The new Garmin Trucker’s GPS now has a name, we’re going to call her DeeDee.  The specific model is “Dezl” and we discovered she’s dyslexic, so, “DeeDee” it is.  On our first test outing around Saratoga Springs, we tried to find a restaurant.  The first try ended with DeeDee telling us our destination was on the right, it was actually on the left, and had gone out of business.  We put in another choice and she got us to the right address, and the restaurant was open, but on the opposite side of the street.

We’ve been dealing with these cantankerous little demons for a number of years, so we know better than to trust them!  When we got ready to start our journey towards New England, I still had Microsoft Streets & Trips on the job:

Plus I’d studied street level view in Google Earth and a Trucker’s Atlas to be as sure as we could about how to get across Vermont and New Hampshire and on to Maine.

We decided to take the smaller, more scenic roads rather than picking all Interstate routes.  We got to see small towns:

Beautiful architecture:

Beautiful scenery:

But not so much of this:

And not a single one of these:

We spent one night in Vermont:

with no satellite reception so no TV.  It was a quiet, peaceful night!

We spent another night just across the Maine state line before finishing up our trip to the Pumpkin Patch RV Resort in Hermon:

We didn’t waste much time once we got settled, we were both hungry and in need of a good “lupper” so off we went to find seafood:

Yum, Lobstah Roll!

We’ll be here for a couple of weeks, exploring everything we can!

And, DeeDee has settled down quite a bit, she did pretty good on the trip here.  She recalculates very quickly when we switch routes on her, she gives us warnings about steep hills and curves, and she lets us know if we are on a route that “may” not be suitable for big rigs.  Today, when we used her to navigate to the restaurant, she took us right there, correct side of the road and all.  Also, we can easily switch back and forth between our RV profile and the car.

We bought the RV GPS Rand Mcnally. It also tells us the wrong side of the street and gets us on wrong roads every once inawhile. It also tells us about low bridges, but AFTER we're already under them. We've learned to have a backup. We wish we would have got the truckers model, but there's some things the RV one has that the Truckers didn't.

Good to see you're in the upper Northeast. We'll follow your blogs for when we get there.

Hope you enjoy my home state. Wish we were there to escort you around but, from Pumpkin Patch and with a couple of weeks, I'm sure you'll figure out the lay of the land. Enjoy!!!

Amazing pictures once again! Love the Garmin story. I had one, and it worked well, but I lost custody. Maybe one day! :) Love you!!!
