Even though yesterday’s rain waited until this morning to show up, it didn’t dampen our plan to drive to Belfast today, about 30 miles from us. We had a lunch date with Peggy and Mike Everingham, friends of Judy and Darrell Patterson. We first met Peggy and Mike when we got together with them, the Pattersons, and Deb and Rod Kendall in the Texas Hill Country last Spring. In a couple of days, they will head off from their home in Topsham for a trip to California, so today was the only chance we’d have to get together.
We arrived in the area early, so got a chance to look around Belfast a little bit. This is the water front:
Young’s Lobster Pound was our lunch destination. We read reviews for this place that promised it would be good, but not high on the list for ambiance – it’s a Lobster Pound, after all. They have a huge aquarium where they can house up to 30,000 lobsters!
Peggy and Mike:
You can buy whole lobsters to go, or order a meal to eat there. We didn’t pick a specific lobster, but you could do that if desired:
Jim’s lunch, a sampler that included a cup of clam chowder, a lobster tail, a few shrimp and clam dip:
My lunch, my very first whole lobster!
Mike gave me a few pointers to help me get the most yummy meat out of the beast, and I managed to not make too big a mess. It was delicious!
We visited for a couple of hours, until we needed to get going our separate ways. We just wish we had more time to spend with them, but we know we’ll see them again, down the road somewhere! Meanwhile we wish them safe and happy travels.
The rain had stopped, but it was still pretty cloudy on the way back to Hermon:
We had spotted a brewery/winery on the way to lunch, so of course, being close to happy hour, thought we’d just stop for a quick taste on the way home:
We’re hoping for sunnier weather as we continue our Maine adventures tomorrow!

If you are going further north, Acadia NP and
Bar Harbor are a nice visit. The Maine coast is awesome and just thinking about all the seafood you are enjoying is making me salivate. :)

Oh yummy, your dinner pics have my mouth watering. Elaine is right, except it's not Bar Harbor. You must say it right or they'll just know you're "from away".
