It's All About the Desert

Yesterday morning as we sat at our table eating our oatmeal, this Gila Woodpecker perched on a pole right outside our window. I love the little patch of bright red on the top of his head!

I've been walking a lot in the desert the past two days. The light is always different, so the cacti look different every time I go out there.

These are Teddy Bear Cholla. They look fuzzy and soft, but they are most certainly not!

This is a different type of Cholla cactus. There are little bits and pieces of this type of cactus lying on the ground. Twice in the last 2 days, Mr. Bo Jangles has run into them. They're hard to get out. Many people who walk in the desert with their dogs carry needle-nose pliers. I should too!

This is one of the many paths we walk the desert just behind the rv park. Each Saguaro is unique. After a while they are easily recognized. The campground owner's wife mentioned a 50-arm Saguaro that is supposedly not far out into the desert, but we haven't seen it yet. We'll take a picture to post, if we do happen upon it.

A couple of days ago, I published a picture of this pile of rocks with a plastic flower sticking out of the top. The dogs and I went by today, and they certainly seem to think there's something interesting in that rock pile!

I ordered a hummingbird feeder and another bird feeder from Linda Payne of RV-Dreams.com. They arrived today! We immediately mixed up a little nectar and put the feeder on the window. Ok, now where are the hummers???

It's been warm and breezy today, with a few clouds, making for some interesting lighting. And another day goes by.
