Getting Things Done

Health-wise, we are very blessed. Both of us are currently in pretty good health. I take one prescription medication, for cholesterol. The medical insurance plan we have is a High Deductible Health Plan, or HDHP. We each have individual coverage, and we each have a Health Savings Account that we use to pay out of pocket and deductible expenses. This insurance plan does not pay for a 90 day supply of my prescription medication, therefore, I buy it at a pharmacy every month. That's not a problem usually, since Walgreens are all over the place. Sometimes, like today, we have to drive a ways to get there, but that's not a big deal to us. We just take it in stride and make a day trip out of it.

The closest Walgreens is in Lompoc, so we drove over there today after I'd called in my refill. It was a nice drive, most of it we've seen before, but some of it was new. More vineyards all over the rolling hills. We drove through Solvang, but didn't stop this time. We passed a restaurant, Andersen's Pea Soup, and decided that might make a good place to have lunch on the way back from Lompoc. After we'd completed our business in Lompoc, we decided to drive to the coast there. It isn't much of a beach, but it wasn't crowded, and it is beautiful. There's also an Amtrack station there, which seems out of place. The beach is surrounded by Vandenburg Air Force Base, so all of the surrounding area is restricted. As we drove close to the shore, we noticed double barbed wire fencing next to the road. Guess they don't want people wandering around there!

Jim caught this picture of a bee visiting a flower.

The surf was pretty wild! Maybe that's why it's called Surf Beach?

This little bird and I raced the waves along the shore

This is where we ate lunch. Andersen's in Buelton has been serving Pea Soup for 80 years! They've got the recipe figured out, it was very good!

We stopped at Albertson's grocery on the way back and picked up a few things. I'm feeling a need to simplify my eating after all the rich seafood dishes we've been eating lately. Also, I've picked up a cold, so soup sounds really good to me now.

Tomorrow, we may go to Santa Barbara to do some exploring. It just depends on the weather. We're supposed to be getting some pretty heavy rain starting tonight. We'll see.
